The communication services sector was the top performer while energy lagged amid a drop in oil prices. Nvidia rose 1.7% as investors await its earnings report after the closing bell, viewed as a key test for big tech. Lowe's jumped more than 4% after beating earnings expectations and TJX Companies was up 1% as its earnings and revenues topped estimates.
On the other hand, Meta fell 1.4% after warning of major challenges in identifying and removing underage users as it prepares to comply with Australia's world-first social media ban for those under 16. Target traded little changed following a drop in quarterly sales and a downgrade to its full-year profit outlook. Exxon Mobil was down more than 2%. Traders are additionally awaiting the release of the FOMC meeting minutes.
