At the close in Tokyo, the Nikkei 225 lost 0.68%.
The best performers of the session on the Nikkei 225 were Sumitomo Dainippon Pharma Co Ltd (TYO:4506), which rose 16.95% or 150.00 points to trade at 1,035.00 at the close. Meanwhile, Mitsubishi Heavy Industries, Ltd. (TYO:7011) added 4.88% or 160.00 points to end at 3,436.00 and Japan Steel Works Ltd (TYO:5631) was up 4.45% or 322.00 points to 7,551.00 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were SUMCO Corp. (TYO:3436), which fell 3.93% or 43.00 points to trade at 1,051.00 at the close. Recruit Holdings Co Ltd (TYO:6098) declined 3.56% or 304.00 points to end at 8,226.00 and M3 Inc (TYO:2413) was down 3.13% or 65.00 points to 2,014.50.
Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the Tokyo Stock Exchange by 1914 to 1629 and 303 ended unchanged.

The Nikkei Volatility, which measures the implied volatility of Nikkei 225 options, was down 0.65% to 22.80.
Crude oil for July delivery was down 0.69% or 0.47 to $67.68 a barrel. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Brent oil for delivery in August fell 0.79% or 0.55 to hit $69.22 a barrel, while the August Gold Futures contract rose 1.49% or 49.70 to trade at $3,393.40 a troy ounce.
USD/JPY was down 0.48% to 143.84, while EUR/JPY fell 0.23% to 165.66.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.25% at 98.36.
