The number of job openings on the last business day of December stood at 7.6 million, the US Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) reported in the Job Openings and Labor Turnover Survey (JOLTS) on Tuesday. This reading followed the 8.15 million openings announced in November and came in below the market expectation of 8 million. "Over the month, hires and total separations were little changed at 5.5 million and 5.3 million, respectively. US core PCE inflation holds steady at 2.8% in December as expected

Inflation in the US, as measured by the change in the Personal Consumption Expenditures (PCE) Price Index, edged higher to 2.6% on a yearly basis in December from 2.4% in November, the US Bureau of Economic Analysis (BEA) reported on Friday. The core PCE Price Index, which excludes volatile food and energy prices, rose 2.8% in the same period, matching November's reading and the market expectation.
