Nikkei Tokyo's key Nikkei index suffered its largest drop in more than three years Friday, following reports that Israel carried out strikes on Iran and after US tech stocks fell. The benchmark Nikkei 225 index ended down 2.66 percent, or 1,011.35 points, to 37,068.35, marking its largest fall in points since February 2021. Tokyo stocks opened slightly lower Thursday as investors locked in profits after recent gains and ahead of a Bank of Japan policy decision later in the day. Hong Kong stocks finished sharply higher Wednesday, extending a rally on Wall Street, with tech firms given a boost by fresh hopes that China's crackdown in the industry is close to an end. The Hang Seng Index rose 1.11 percent, or 229.16 points, to close at 20,890.22. Stocks finished higher on Wednesday, adding to sharp gains booked a day before, with a corporate earnings from a string of major technology companies in focus. The Dow Jones Industrial Average added about 51 points, or 0.2%, ending near 31,878. The S&P 500 index rose 0.6%, while the Nasdaq Composite Index closed 1.6% higher. European stocks closed lower on Wednesday, as investors continued to digest corporate earnings, economic data and the potential path of monetary policy. The pan-European Stoxx 600 closed down by 0.2%, after reversing initial gains earlier in the session. The banking and automotive sectors each fell more than 0.9% to lead losses. Tech shares climbed 1.7% after Netflix said it expects to return to subscriber growth in the third quarter. Uniper was the biggest climber on Wednesday.
