Stocks open sharply lower; Dow down over 1,000 points

Stocks opened sharply lower Wednesday on continued fears over the impact of the global COVID-19 pandemic as investors weigh the scope for fiscal stimulus and other responses.

The Dow Jones Industrial Average was down 1,068 points, or 5%, at 20,168, after losing more than 1,300 points in ealry action. The S&P500 was off 5.1% at 2,401, while the Nasdaq Composite lost 4.5% to trade at 6,996.
