Nasdaq Books Worst Loss of September Amid Trump Impeachment Calls, Hawkish UN Speech

U.S. stock markets finished solidly lower Tuesday, with one key technology benchmark notching its worst daily decline of September, after President Trump criticized China in a United Nations speech and reports indicated growing appetite for an impeachment inquiry against the 45th U.S. president.

The Dow Jones Industrial Average closed down 142 points, or 0.5%, at 26,808, the S&P 500 index dropped 0.8% to 2,967, while the Nasdaq Composite Index declined 1.5% to 7,993, marking its steepest daily drop since a 3% decline on Aug. 23, according to FactSet data.
