The United States on Tuesday accused companies in the United Arab Emirates, the Central African Republic and Russia of engaging in illicit gold deals to help fund the mercenary fighters of Russia's Wagner Group. The U.S. Treasury Department said in a statement it has sanctioned four companies linked to Wagner and its leader, Yevgeny Prigozhin, that it alleged were used to help pay the paramilitary's forces fighting in Ukraine and undertaking operations to support Russian interests in Africa. The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) said Thursday it will require more than 25,000 of its health care workers to get the COVID-19 vaccine. HHS employs more than 80,000 people, and those not covered by the mandate still must attest to their vaccination status or submit to regular testing. Stephen Feehily lives in a suburb of New Orleans, Louisiana, an area where, as in much of the American South, hesitancy to get vaccinated against COVID-19 has been high. While his two sons are too young to get the shots, he regrets that he and his wife opted against inoculation. "Listen, I can admit I made a mistake," he told VOA. "I wouldn't wish what happened to my wife and me on anyone. It was truly horrible and I'm getting the vaccine as soon as I can." The change of heart occurred after he, his wife and youngest son all tested positive for the coronavirus while on vacation last month....

The demographic makeup of the United States is changing rapidly, with a new report Thursday on the 2020 census expected to show that minorities accounted for all of America's population growth in the last decade, and that for the first time the number of whites in the country has declined. The Census Bureau in April said the once-every-10-years population count showed the U.S. had 331.4 million residents in 2020 and grew by just 7.4% since 2010. It was the slowest growth in any decade except during the Great Depression in the 1930s since the census was first started in 1790. Although exact...
