Hong Kong shares ended higher Friday, extending the previous day's near-three percent gains, as global markets were boosted by a better-than-expected reading on US jobs creation. The Hang Seng Index jumped 0.99 percent, or 248.93 points, to 25,373.12. The benchmark Shanghai Composite Index rose 2.01 percent, or 62.24 points, to 3,152.81 while the Shenzhen Composite Index on China's second exchange rallied 1.28 percent, or 25.84 points, to 2,041.89. Hong Kong stocks ended on a positive note Wednesday with attention now turning to the start of key congressional testimony from Federal Reserve boss Jerome Powell later in the day. The Hang Seng Index added 0.31 percent, or 88.41 points, to 28,204.69. The benchmark Shanghai Composite Index slipped 0.44 percent, or 12.93 point, to 2,915.30, while the Shenzhen Composite Index, which tracks stocks on China's second exchange, lost 0.46 percent, or 7.24 points, to 1,550.87. The benchmark S&P 500 closed higher on Wednesday after briefly crossing the 3,000-point mark for the first time following dovish remarks from Federal Reserve Chairman Jerome Powell boosting the case for an interest rate cut this month. The Dow Jones Industrial Average rose 76.71 points, or 0.29%, to 26,860.2, the S&P 500 gained 13.43 points, or 0.45%, to 2,993.06 and the Nasdaq Composite added 60.80 points, or 0.75%, to 8,202.53. U.S. stocks rose Wednesday, though off session highs at midday, after testimony by Federal Reserve Chairman Jerome Powell before Congress was seen indicating a likely interest rate cut later this month. The Dow Jones Industrial Average rose 69 points, or 0.3%, at 26,850, while the S&P 500 index  advanced 9 points, or 0.3%, to 2,989. The Nasdaq Composite index added 36 points, or 0.5%, to 8,178. At session highs, the Dow rose 199.96 points, or 0.7%, to 26,983.45, while the S&P added 22.26 points, or 0.8% to 3,002.89 and the Nasdaq advanced 86.87 points, or 1.1% to 8.228.60....

European stocks edged lower on Wednesday afternoon after U.S. Federal Reserve Chairman Jerome Powell hinted at imminent interest rate cuts in a testimony to Congress. The pan-European Stoxx 600 fell almost 0.2% at 387.15 during afternoon trade, with the vast majority of sectors in negative territory. Europes telecoms stocks led the losses, shedding around 0.8%, with the autos and food and beverages sectors also among the sessions worst performers. Source : CNBC

U.S. stocks rose on opening Wednesday after Federal Reserve chair Jerome Powell's planned testimony to Congress at 10.00 am Eastern indicated a likely interest rate cut later this month. The Dow Jones Industrial Average was up 0.36% at 26,886, while the S&P 500 rose 0.41% to 2992 and the Nasdaq gained 0.65% to 8,193. All three indexes remain close to record highs seen in June.
