Australia is suspending its extradition treaty with Hong Kong in response to the new national security law imposed on the city by China. In announcing the move Thursday, Prime Minister Scott Morrison said Canberra will extend temporary visas for an additional five years for the 10,000 Hong Kong citizens currently studying and working in Australia, and allow them to apply for permanent residency after that time. The U.S. Defense Department has released new photographs it says are more proof that Iran attacked two foreign oil tankers in the Gulf of Oman last week. The pictures show what the United States says are Iranian Revolutionary Guard forces taking an unexploded mine off the side of the Japanese-owned Kokuka Courageous tanker. Another shot shows where the mine had been attached. Other pictures show a large hole in the Courageous that the Pentagon says was likely caused by another mine. The Philippine president has called for calm amid an outcry after a Chinese vessel hit a Philippine fishing boat, which sank and put 22 fishermen in danger in the disputed South China Sea. President Rodrigo Duterte said Monday the June 9 incident at Reed Bank was a ''little maritime accident'' between two vessels that should be investigated, and that China's side should be heard. Duterte's reaction contrasted with that of some of his own officials, including the defense chief, who strongly condemned the Chinese vessel for sailing away as the fishing boat sank at night. Philippine...

India has hiked tariffs on 28 goods imported from the United States as a trade spat between the two countries intensifies. The retaliatory move came days after Washington removed New Delhi from a list of countries that have preferential access to its market. This required India to respond." The trade spat has escalated ahead of a visit later this month to New Delhi by U.S. Secretary of State...
