Gold futures moved higher on Monday, building on last week's climb to mark their highest finish in almost a week. The ICE U.S. Dollar Index was down 0.4% in Monday dealings, providing a boost to dollar-denominated gold prices.  August gold rose $3.50, or 0.2%, to settle at $1,793.50 an ounce. Gold futures were slightly lower on Tuesday, edging below $1,400 an ounce, as investors await remarks by Federal Reserve Chairman Jerome Powell that could offer clues about rate-cut prospects. Gold for August delivery on Comex fell $5.20, or 0.4%, to $1,394.80 an ounce, while September silver was 1.5 cents higher at $15.065 an ounce, up 0.1%. Oil rose above $64 a barrel on Tuesday as OPEC supply cuts and Middle East tensions outweighed the U.S.-China trade dispute that is dragging on the global economy and oil demand. OPEC and its allies last week agreed to extend their supply-cutting deal until March 2020. Brent has risen almost 20 percent in 2019 supported by the pact and also tensions in the Middle East, especially concerns about Iran's nuclear program.
