Gold slips below $1,400 an ounce as investors await Fed's Powell

Gold futures were slightly lower on Tuesday, edging below $1,400 an ounce, as investors await remarks by Federal Reserve Chairman Jerome Powell that could offer clues about rate-cut prospects.

Gold for August delivery on Comex fell $5.20, or 0.4%, to $1,394.80 an ounce, while September silver was 1.5 cents higher at $15.065 an ounce, up 0.1%.

In other metals trade, October platinum fell $8.70, or 1.1%, to $811.70 an ounce, while September palladium was off $12.30, or 0.8%, to $1,545.90 an ounce.

July copper was off 3.2 cents, or 1.2%, at $2.627 a pound.
